January 25—Bulgarian church gives Haiti Offering
Last weekend, David (Pickering) and I were able to present NMSI's Haitian Fund to our home church here in Sofia, Bulgaria. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. The pastor spoke with other church leaders, and they decided...

Tuesday, January 19—Mioche Rock

Once again God has given us the opportunity to visit some more families today in Pignon. We prayed, cried and comforted them during this challenging time. "He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others" (2 Cor. 1:3-5) Thank you for your continued prayers.

Great News! We have heard from Mioche's brother and the Etienne's are safe. Their house was destroyed (as was the Raphael's) but they are okay. They need relief funds to buy basic necessities of water, food and fuel. More

Friends around the globe,

It's only been 24 hours since the devastating earthquake close to Port-au-Prince. This is what we know and can pass on accurately at this time.

We have 5 national families associated with NMSI in Haiti. We have heard from Mioche Rock and family in Pignon (the central highlands area) and they are fine. They have family in Port-au-Prince who they are concerned about. Nego and Ellen Pierre-Louis in Jacmel are fine. We have not heard from Sainsurin Jean-Baptiste in Gonaives, however, I have heard from other sources that the area is fine and was not greatly impacted by the earthquake. We have not heard from Jean Martin Etienne and family, who live on the west side of Port-au-Prince, closest to the epicenter. We have also not had any contact with Leonel Raphael and family who also live in Port-au-Prince. Please pray specifically for these families—their health and safety and also their opportunity to minister and witness in the face of this catastrophe.
(Mike Osborn, NMSI Haiti Field Advisor)

Mioche Rock, NMSI national missionary from Pignon, Haiti, reported that he had just heard from Leonel Raphael's brother outside of Washington D.C. who reported that Leonel, his wife Carlette and their children are okay. Leonel was outside of the capital when the earthquake hit. A tree fell on their house and it collapsed. Carlette and kids spent first night on street but are okay. The Rocks have not had any contact with them since an early morning brief e-mail but we know they are alive.

Tuesday evening a 7.0 earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Already the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, the latest reports coming out of major news sources paint a grim picture. Widespread destruction throughout Port-au-Prince, including the partial collapse of the Presidential Palace, evidences a long recovery road. Airport closings have hampered the arrival of needed aid from the international community.
